When we think of a healthy lifestyle, the first thing that comes to mind is regular exercise and a balanced and varied diet . However, there are other, lesser-known habits that can improve our body's well-being in our daily lives.
In this sense, health experts can spread the word about these less popular practices thanks to the tremendous dissemination channel offered by social media. One of them is physician Sara Marín, who has revealed one of the reasons why our digestive system doesn't function optimally: the moment we should fall asleep.

It's not about the sleeping habit itself, but rather the position in which we sleep. She herself warns of the main problem in a text on her own Instagram post: "Never sleep on your right side." Although it may seem like an unimportant gesture, it actually has a significant influence on our body's digestive behavior.
Small but effective gestureThe doctor is clear about this unconscious habit . “When you sleep on your right side, your stomach is above your esophagus, and acid rises upward toward your mouth, causing reflux, indigestion, gas, and a worse night's sleep,” Marín explains in the video, recommending sleeping on our left side .
This way, the stomach will remain positioned below the esophagus, benefiting from the effect of gravity on our body, as acid cannot rise. This translates into improved digestive processes and better sleep, as well as stimulating our circulation and lymphatic drainage, even in the brain, and reducing fluid retention.
Thanks to this, we will not only enjoy better function of the aforementioned organs, but we will also experience a greater sense of well-being that floods our body, improving our performance in our daily lives . That's why we should make sure, as much as possible, to sleep on our left side, avoiding discomfort and health problems that may otherwise arise.
